Halloween In Carrick

Halloween arrives in Carrick!

This year the City of Pittsburgh’s official trick-or-treating hours are from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Friday, October 31, 2014.

Carrick Community Council hosts a Halloween Costume Contest for children 12 and younger. They urge people to wear their “scariest, prettiest, most original costumes”. It is scheduled at noon on Saturday, October 25 in the cafeteria at Pittsburgh Carrick High School. It runs until about 2:00 PM. Preregistration is required at 412-339-0808 to win trophies for varying categories of best costume.

Children at least 6 years old may attend the Haunted Library on Wednesday October 29 and Thursday October 30 from 5:00 until 7:30 PM, and Saturday November 1 from 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. This Carrick tradition dares you visit "three rooms of unmitigated, family-friendly TERROR" at the Carnegie Library Of Pittsburgh – Carrick, 1811 Brownsville Road. More information is available by calling 412-882-3897.

Get dressed for Halloween when you swap or shop for Halloween Costumes, winter coats, and cold weather gear at Swap & Shop on Wednesday, October 22, from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at Pittsburgh Roosevelt Intermediate cafeteria on West Cherryhill Street. Donations of gently used winter hats, gloves, boots, gloves and Halloween costumes can be dropped off between 8:30am and 2:30 from now through October 20th at the Roosevelt Elementary, Primary Building or Intermediate Building. A donations box is located in the main office of the Primary Building. For each item donated, people receive one ticket that can be used to purchase a used item. Or tickets can be purchased 2 for $1. Costumes can be home-made or store bought. Donated items should be clean and in good condition, although organizers are not responsible for condition of purchased items.

A telephone survey of drinking establishments in the Carrick area shows that Backdraft Bar & Grill, 3049 Churchview Avenue, will host a Halloween costume party on Saturday, October 25. The costume contest offers quite a few prizes in many categories, said Michelle Davin. A DJ will play music at the Halloween party, which starts at 9:30 PM and runs until closing. The Backdraft costume party is held the Saturday before Halloween because “people have things to do on the weekend of Halloween with their children,” Ms. Davin said.
