Overbrook Man Jailed In Brookline Murder

An Overbrook man has been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of Maria Bruno, 25, of Brookline last month.

Bruno, Daniel Rehll, 25, and other friends were drinking together that evening when Rehll wanted to show off his pistol. Later, after cleaning up, Rehll allegedly removed the magazine and a live round of ammunition from the gun before it went off but does not remember pulling the trigger. An autopsy noted powder burns around the wound and concluded that the barrel of the gun was placed on Ms. Bruno's cheek when the round went off. Rehll has also been charged with a felony gun violation.

Rehll was described as a longtime friend of Bruno in the criminal complaint. They knew each other since attending Brashear High School together and dated in the past.

Rehll was held in the Allegheny County Jail without bail pending a preliminary hearing August 14.
